Since my last view of Jupiter, the great gas giant slipped behind the sun (in what’s called a “conjunction”) and reemerged with the Northern Equatorial Band (NEB) showing tremendous activity. Poor weather and other obligations delayed the start of my observations for this apparition, but we had some clear, albeit shakey skies this morning for this image showing the newly reconstituted NEB and an odd reddish color to the equatorial zone (EZ).
